ON SEPTEMBER 18th, CHAIRMAN OF THE BALL,
GEOVANY SOTO HOSTED THE

WEST SIDE ROOTERS BALL BENEFITTING JDRF

The West Side Rooters Social Club was pleased to present the 2008 Rooters Ball featuring Chicago Cubs catcher (the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year) and Rooters Ball Chairman Geovany Soto. This year’s Ball benefited the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Soto’s favorite charity. Like the Rooters Ball of 1908, held just before the Cubs last won the World Series, this year’s event gave fans the chance to mingle with their favorite players, including current players Geovany Soto, Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Kerry Wood, Alfonso Soriano, Ryan Dempster and coaches Larry Rothschild, Matt Sinatro and Mike Quade.

Two dinners with Geo Soto were auctioned off and raised $7,000. Dempster auctioned off a "W" flag autographed by the entire team for $8,000. A copy of the book Hoodoo: Unraveling the 100-year Mystery of the Chicago Cubs went for $250. It was signed by West Side Rooters officers Ernie Banks, Grant DePorter, Dutchie Caray and Ryne Sandberg.
